From our wine team
A closer look at what’s new.
As summer ends and we head towards the busiest weeks of the year, we always take a moment to look back over our wine list. It's a chance to think about the tastings that stayed with us, the producers we've most enjoyed getting to know, and the bottles we keep coming back to.
This year has given us plenty to talk about. We've welcomed new producers from Piedmont to Sicily and added new wines from some familiar names. Here are the ten that impressed us most, travelling from the hills of Piedmont down to the coast of western Sicily, followed by a round-up of everything else that's new.
The selection
Our ten highlights
The wines we keep coming back to, and the food we’d serve with them.
Piedmont
03 wines / Italy01 Tenuta Cucco
Barolo DOCG Cerrati
Piedmont · RedOrganic
Cerrati is the bottle we would give pride of place on a serious wine list: a Barolo with a clear sense of its vineyard and the structure to develop.
Tenuta Cucco sits in Serralunga d’Alba, one of Barolo’s eleven communes. Cerrati is a named vineyard area, or MGA, on its central ridge, with south- and southeast-facing slopes between 260 and 400 metres. The limestone and clay soils help explain the firm structure associated with this part of Barolo. The estate’s history reaches back to the 1960s; the Rossi Cairo family took over in 2015, and the vineyards are certified organic.
Made entirely from Nebbiolo, Cerrati spends 30 months in large Slavonian oak barrels and around 26 months in bottle before release. That long maturation gives its floral and fruit notes time to develop into something more savoury. We chose it for that combination of perfume, depth and patience: a wine with plenty to say as it opens in the glass.
02 Tenuta Cucco
Langhe Nebbiolo DOC
Piedmont · RedOrganic
The Nebbiolo we would pour by the glass: fragrant, supple and ready to enjoy, with plenty of the grape’s character.
From the same organic Serralunga estate as Cerrati, this is Tenuta Cucco’s fresher expression of Nebbiolo. Fermentation and maturation take place entirely in stainless steel, with gentle extraction keeping the tannins discreet and the fruit in focus. It is a useful introduction to the estate and to the grape behind Barolo.
03 Piazzo
Barbaresco DOCG Pajorè 2021
Piedmont · Red
Pajorè stood out for its precision: an elegant Barbaresco with silky fruit, defined tannins and a real vineyard story.
We have listed Piazzo’s Barolos for some time, and the new Barbarescos were an easy addition. This single-vineyard wine comes from Pajorè in Treiso, from west-facing vines at 250 metres that are more than fifty years old. The calcareous clay site gives a small crop with plenty of character.
Piazzo first made Pajorè in 2019, forty years after its first Barbaresco. The name recalls a farmhouse in the vineyard and the Peirolero family who once lived there. Made from 100% Nebbiolo and matured in large oak barrels before further ageing in bottle, it brings together that history and a particularly refined style.
Tuscany
01 wine / Italy04 Luiano
Sangiovese IGT 'Rossoassai'
Tuscany · Red
A straightforward Tuscan red with lively fruit and an easy finish. A strong choice for everyday, by-the-glass service.
The Palombo family has run Luiano, near Mercatale Val di Pesa, since 1959. Rossoassai is 100% Sangiovese, fermented and matured in stainless steel to keep its youthful character. It reflects the family’s emphasis on wines that are balanced and enjoyable to drink.
Abruzzo
01 wine / Italy05 Famiglia di Tommaso
Pecorino Terre Abruzzesi IGP Puli
Abruzzo · WhiteOrganic
We chose Puli for the balance of fresh citrus and real substance: an organic white that earns its place by the glass.
Famiglia di Tommaso’s winemaking roots go back to the family’s vineyard farming in Abruzzo. Based in Casoli, between the Maiella mountains and the Adriatic, they work with the region’s native grapes. Puli shows the weight and lively acidity that make Pecorino such a useful addition to a wine list.
Campania
02 wines / Italy06 Ocone Vini 1910
Aglianico del Taburno DOCG
Campania · Red
Aglianico gives the selection a fuller, more structured southern red, with dark fruit and enough freshness to keep it balanced.
Ocone’s history began in 1910 in the Sannio area of Campania. This 100% Aglianico comes from hand-picked grapes on the hills around Ponte, at roughly 400 metres, on mainly calcareous, alluvial soils. It belongs to the Millenovecentodieci range, which keeps the native grape’s character clear through stainless-steel winemaking.
07 Ocone Vini 1910
Fiano Collemarino Sannio DOC
Campania · White
Collemarino is our choice for a white with a little more texture and length, while keeping a gentle, fragrant character.
Ocone’s Fiano comes from Collemarino in Sannio, an area once covered by the sea whose soils still contain fossils. Made entirely from this native Campanian grape, it is part of the Millenovecentodieci range: a link to the winery’s first harvest in 1910, with stainless-steel winemaking keeping the fruit and flowers clear.
Ocone Vini 1910
1910
At the foot of Mount Taburno, every grape is picked by hand into crates, and since 2019 the estate has run on a sustainability programme of solar power and careful water use.
Sicily
03 wines / Italy08 Palmento Costanzo
Etna Brut DOC Metodo Classico
Sicily · SparklingOrganic
One of the most memorable surprises in the selection: a white sparkling wine made from Etna’s red Nerello Mascalese grape.
Palmento Costanzo works on Etna’s northern slopes, in Contrada Santo Spirito at Passopisciaro. The Nerello Mascalese vines grow in volcanic sand and rock; gentle pressing keeps the juice white. Fermentation uses indigenous yeasts, followed by a second fermentation in bottle and 20 months on the lees. That time adds the nut and brioche notes to its fresh fruit.
09 Cantine Fina
El Aziz Vendemmia Tardiva
Sicily · Dessert
A dessert wine with enough freshness to keep us coming back to it. El Aziz gives the list a considered finish in a useful 50cl bottle.
Bruno Fina and his wife Mariella founded Cantine Fina in 2005 on a hill above Marsala in western Sicily. El Aziz, whose Arabic name means “the magnificent”, is their late-harvest Grillo. The grapes are left to dry naturally on the vine before being picked by hand, concentrating the fruit and sweetness. Steel maturation and further time in bottle preserve that character.
10 Cantine Fina
Pas Dosé Metodo Classico Millesimato
Sicily · Sparkling
Fina’s Pas Dosé brings a taut, savoury sparkling style to the list, with the texture to carry it beyond the first glass.
From the Fina family in western Sicily, this vintage Metodo Classico combines 70% Chardonnay with 30% Pinot Nero. A second fermentation in bottle and extended ageing on the lees develop its bread-crust and brioche character. Pas Dosé means no sweetening dosage is added after disgorgement, so freshness and savoury detail remain at the centre of the wine.

The rest of our new arrivals
More producers, more styles and a few other bottles to make room for.
Piedmont
Tenuta Cucco · Piazzo
Barolo DOCG Serralunga d’Alba
Cucco’s village Barolo brings together Nebbiolo from Bricco Voghera and the lower slopes of Cerrati. It gives a broader view of Serralunga d’Alba than the single-vineyard bottling, while retaining the commune’s firm structure. The organic fruit is matured for 24 months in large oak barrels and around another 24 months in bottle.
We chose it as a classic Barolo for a serious list, with freshness, depth and room to develop.
Barbera d’Alba Superiore DOC
From Cucco’s Elia vineyard in Roddi, this organic Barbera spends a year in large barrels.
A useful addition for its generous fruit, lively acidity and approachable style.
Langhe Chardonnay DOC
From the east-facing Gianetto vineyard in Serralunga, with part of the wine fermented and matured in French oak and part kept in steel.
Chosen for its combination of texture and freshness in the white-wine section.
Barbaresco DOCG Argè 2021
Argè is named for Piazzo’s founders, Armando and Gemma. It combines Nebbiolo from three family vineyards, Rocche Massalupo, Rizzi and Nervo, and follows the estate’s traditional approach to Barbaresco, with maturation in large oak barrels and bottle.
It adds a broader, classic expression alongside Pajorè, with enough fruit and measured tannins to be approachable already.
Lombardy
Centinari · Franciacorta
Franciacorta DOCG Brut
Centinari is the Togni family’s Franciacorta project in Capriolo. This 100% Chardonnay is made by the traditional method, with an average of 28 months on the lees to build its texture and yeasty depth.
A strong addition to the premium sparkling section for its rounded fruit and balanced structure. It won Grand Gold and the Italian Revelation title at the 2025 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles sparkling-wine session.
Franciacorta DOCG Dosage Zero
Also made entirely from Chardonnay, with around 28 months on the lees, this is Centinari’s version without a sweetening dosage after disgorgement. It shows a more direct side of the same Franciacorta origins and traditional-method winemaking.
Chosen to give the list a drier sparkling option with both precision and substance. It also won Grand Gold at the 2025 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles sparkling-wine session.
Friuli
LEA Winery · Alcohol-free
Franc Lizêr Blanc de Blancs
The Spadotto family founded LEA in Friuli in 2018. This Glera wine is fermented before its alcohol is gently removed.
Chosen to give the alcohol-free selection a fresh, fragrant sparkling option.
Franc Lizêr Rosé Spumante
LEA combines Glera and Merlot, then gently removes the alcohol to retain the fruit character.
A rosé option that brings variety to the alcohol-free sparkling list.
Franc Lizêr White · Pinot Grigio
A still Pinot Grigio from LEA’s Friulian project, dealcoholised through selective membrane filtration.
Chosen as an accessible still-white alternative for the wine list.
Opale Rosé
Made from Merlot by LEA in Friuli, with gentle membrane filtration to remove the alcohol.
It adds a still rosé to a range that covers more than sparkling styles.
MustHave 0.0%
LEA makes MustHave from unfermented Glera grape must, preserving the grape’s natural sweetness.
Chosen for a fruitier 0.0% option in the sparkling selection.
Abruzzo

A youthful Trebbiano from the Di Tommaso family in Casoli, Abruzzo.
A clear house-white candidate for its easy freshness.
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC Foje
The Di Tommaso family’s approachable expression of Abruzzo’s signature red grape.

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC Puli

Sangiovese Terre di Chieti IGP Puli
An Abruzzese Sangiovese from the Di Tommaso family, settled in steel to preserve the fruit.
Chosen to add a supple alternative alongside the Montepulcianos.
Campania
Ocone Vini 1910
Falanghina Taburno Sannio DOC
From Ocone’s Sannio vineyards on the hills around Taburno, continuing the winery’s focus on native Campanian grapes.
A fragrant, fresh addition for everyday white-wine service.
Bozzovich Bianco Benevento IGT
An Ocone blend led by Falanghina, Fiano and Greco; the label recalls an Art Nouveau poster made for the family.
Chosen for a rounded, approachable white with distinctive presentation.
Bozzovich Nero Benevento IGT
Principally Aglianico and Piedirosso from Benevento, with Ocone’s historic poster inspiring the Bozzovich label.
It adds generous flavour and a softer texture to the southern reds.
Sicily
Cantine Fina · Cristo di Campobello
Makisé Bianco Frizzante Terre Siciliane IGT
A Grillo from the Fina family in western Sicily, lightly sparkling through a second fermentation in tank.
Chosen for a lighter, informal sparkling option with coastal freshness.
C’D’C’ Rosato
A Sicilian rosé made entirely from Nero d’Avola, with brief skin contact and four months on the lees in steel.
A dry rosé with enough texture to keep its place on the list year-round.
