High Selection of the main native vines of Sardinia cultivated in our own vineyards: Cannonau of Sardinia, Carignano and Muristellu (an ancient Sardinian vine).
The blend enhances the aromatic profile of the grapes, giving the wine a marked complexity. After a slow fermentation on the skins, carried out in small steel containers for a period of about 20 days, it is aged in French oak barriques for a period of 3 years followed by an important ageing in bottle lying down for at least 1 year (necessary to express its ample and intense bouquet of aromas).
Intense and bright ruby red colour, with evident violet tones. To the nose it offers notes of red fruits, marasca cherry and cherry, revealing hints of sweet tobacco and wild liquorice. On the palate it is ample, warm, savoury, with a rich texture of dense and soft tannins that make it particularly elegant.
About the brand
The Atha Ruja vineyards are located a few km from Dorgali, within the National Park of the Gulf of Orosei and Gennargentu, in the heart of the Oddoene Valley, an area traditionally devoted to viticulture and known as one of the cru areas for the Sardinian vine par excellence: Cannonau.
We are the guardians of a still uncontaminated area and we want to preserve it by fully adhering to the rules of organic farming. An original core of Mediterranean scrub still thrives in the middle of the vineyard, which is in part cultivated in head-trained bush vines over fifty years old, and in part as spurred cordons with six thousand plants per hectare. The selective thinning helps us to balance the plant by facilitating the appropriate ripening of the grapes and to contain the yield, thus preserving over the years our vines’ superior and uniform quality.
